TIPS ON SUPPORTING CHILDREN DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

TIPS ON SUPPORTING CHILDREN DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Children all over the world are impacted by COVID-19. With the sudden disruption in their daily routines, such as school closures, the loss of loved ones, and the lack of social and physical activities all can be stressful and anxiety-producing for children. The question then becomes- what can we do to help children cope during this pandemic?

According to the National Association of School Psychologist, here are some helpful tips.

  1. Establish and maintain a daily routine – A routine provides structure and predictability for children.
  2. Be a Role Model-children are watching and learning from you what to do and not to do in a crisis.
  3. Focus on the positive– find something positive to highlight daily.
  4. Limit exposure to Social Media and Television viewing.

– Too much negative information can be overwhelming and frightening for children. Teach them how to choose appropriate news sources.

  1. Take time to speak to your children– talk kindly, simple and reassuring with them. Allow their questions to be your guide.
  2. Be honest and accurate offering developmental and appropriate facts.

7.Stay in touch virtually with friends and family.

  1. Keep up physical and fun activities– bike riding, dancing, leisure walks, baking, arts, and crafts, etc.
  2. CAREGIVERS, IF YOU NEED HELP, SEEK AND ASK FOR HELP.

We are going to get through this challenging time together.

Thank you for your support and continue to pray with and for your children.
