Deworming Program
Worms are everywhere and they are found in many public areas including schools and playgrounds. Unfortunately, worms infections are very common in developing countries and are a normal issue for children who live in extreme poverty.
Worm infection is one of the major causes of children’s deaths, especially in developing countries with poor sanitation. According to the World Health Organization, the latest estimates indicate that more than 880 million children are in need of treatment for these parasites.
Deworming is one solution for this prevalent health problem. It directly addresses undernourishment by allowing children to utilize all of the calories that they take in. When a child is dewormed, it decreases anemia and improves their overall health.
Because of this, Rizing Starz International launched a Deworming Program on the 25th of June 2017, Sunday, at “Together We Make It Orphanage” in Gomoa Mpota. Rizing Starz conducted a deworming program for 33 children with the help of 12 child care personnel and Rizing Starz volunteers, namely, Ms. Rebecca, Indubious, Clement, Salomey, Dickson, Gabriel and Ruth (Nurse).

The Rizing Starz team arrived at 11:25 AM in the orphanage and the programme started at 12 noon. It started with a prayer led by the Rizing Starz team, followed by a few songs that were sang by the children.
Ms. Rebecca from the Rizing Starz team made a few introductions about the program and its purpose. She explained what deworming is all about and afterwards, she called on Ruth (Nurse) to give a short talk on deworming and its benefits to the children.
After the talk, the Rizing Starz team distributed the medication (Wormee 4, 400mg – Albendazole) both in tablet and in suspension form for children who cannot take the tablets.
The Rizing Starz team had fun with the children by playing with them and later teaching them a few songs and lessons. The children participated with enthusiasm and answered questions. The team also shared some snacks with all those who were present.
DONATIONS
The team went on to donate clothes to the “Together We Make It Orphanage” and all the children present from Gomoa Mpota and the adjoining communities.

- 100 pieces of clothing (baby clothes, shirts, shorts, dresses, trousers for both male and female)
- 7 toothbrushes
- 1 packet of pencils
- Irish Spring soaps
- 7 storybooks
- 1 packet of Pampers
- 1 Toothpaste
- 1 packet of panties (for girls)
- 1 packet of briefs (for boys)
SUCCESSFUL EXERCISE
The programme came to an end at around 4:00 pm. All in all, it was a successful exercise. Moreover, it showed that Rizing Starz International is not only concerned about providing orphanages with food and clothing, but it also focuses on the health and nourishment of orphans in the orphanages that it supports.
